Meetings Africa 2026 and what it means for corporate golf, incentive travel, and business events across the continent.
Meetings Africa 2026 — the continent's premier business events trade show, held annually at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg — returned this April with record attendance and a notably elevated conversation around experiential add-ons to corporate travel programmes. For Arikai Africa, the event confirmed what we have long believed: golf is becoming a mainstream MICE product in Africa, not a niche luxury.
Meetings Africa is the Southern African Tourism Services Association's (SATSA) flagship trade event for the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector. It connects corporate event planners, PCOs (Professional Conference Organisers), incentive travel buyers, venue operators, and destination management companies. The 2026 edition saw over 3,000 delegates and 600+ exhibitors from 40+ countries.
Arikai Africa participated as an exhibitor and speaker — the first time a dedicated golf DMC has taken a central role at the event. The response was illuminating.
Corporate golf days have long been a staple of South African business culture. But what Meetings Africa 2026 revealed is a broader, more structured shift: international MICE buyers are actively seeking African golf experiences as incentive travel components — not just for South African corporates, but for multinational companies rewarding high-performing teams from Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas.
An incentive travel programme that combines a conference in Cape Town with a group golf day at Fancourt, followed by a safari extension at a Kruger lodge, is not a fantasy — it is an increasingly requested product. The challenge has been that very few operators have the expertise to deliver all three components at the quality level required by incentive travel budgets.
Arikai Africa does. And Meetings Africa gave us the platform to demonstrate it.
Three themes emerged consistently in our meetings at Meetings Africa 2026:
Bespoke vs. Off-the-Shelf. Incentive travel buyers do not want packages. They want bespoke experiences designed for their specific group — the company's culture, the team's interests, the size of the group, the available budget. This is precisely how Arikai Africa operates. Every proposal is built from scratch.
Seamless Multi-Component Delivery. The biggest pain point for incentive planners working in Africa is coordination fragmentation — working with one supplier for golf, another for accommodation, another for transfers, another for safari. Buyers at Meetings Africa responded enthusiastically to the concept of a single, expert DMC managing the entire journey end-to-end.
Sustainability Credentials. Incentive travel programmes are increasingly required to demonstrate sustainability considerations. Africa's golf and safari combination — particularly when safari components involve conservation-focused lodges — gives Africa a genuine advantage over other incentive travel destinations.
Following Meetings Africa, Arikai Africa has formalised our corporate and MICE golf offering into a clear set of products:
Each is priced and proposed bespoke — with a 48-hour turnaround on initial proposals.
Meetings Africa 2026 confirmed that Africa's MICE sector is growing, professionalising, and increasingly comfortable presenting golf as a high-value component of corporate travel programmes. The continent's combination of world-class courses, extraordinary wildlife, luxury accommodation, and year-round golf weather makes it uniquely positioned to compete — and win — in the global incentive travel market.
If you're an event planner, corporate travel buyer, or PCO looking to build a golf component into an African MICE programme — or if you're a company looking to reward your team with something truly extraordinary — Arikai Africa is the partner you've been looking for.
